Engineering Manager – Computer Hardware / Embedded Software
The Engineering Manager will co-ordinate and control the UK development activities and be based from offices in Essex, South East England. Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Engineering Manager will have responsibility for the following:
• Planning and co-ordination of the activities of the Hardware, Software and Mechanical Design engineers in the UK.
• Achieving project development timescales and budgets.
• Together with the Engineering Director and Marketing team, specifying the requirements and outline of new board designs and appropriate software.
• Overseeing the development of computer products, including their introduction to manufacturing.
• Ensuring that appropriate production test procedures, test fixtures and test software are created.
• Acting as liaison for production issues including the instigation of remedial and corrective Engineering actions.
• Accommodating customer technical support enquiries passed to the Engineering team from our Technical Support engineers.
• Reviewing and approval of technical reference manuals and product datasheets.
• Maintaining awareness of new technologies.
• Personnel management including performance appraisals.
• Reviewing customer requirements and preparing design proposals.
• Monitoring and instigation of appropriate project review meetings.
• Monitoring compliance with, and improving, our ISO 9001 processes.
Candidates should be engineering graduates, with a background in digital hardware or embedded software development in an environment which includes new board-level product design. They should be familiar with some or all of the following technical aspects of the job:
• 32/64 bit microprocessor products, preferably using the Intel 80×86 architecture.
• Embedded product development cycles.
• The requirements of product manufacture and test.
• Embedded and/or PC operating systems, e.g. Microsoft Windows, Linux or VxWorks.
• Technical project management or project leading roles.
