A leading Economic Consultancy aims to be the leading provider of expertise in the design, implementation, operation and regulation of liberalised electricity markets. They are currently looking for an Energy Market Modelling Specialists to be based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
They work extensively for major power companies and utilities advising on markets, trading and regulation, and for Governments and Regulators in designing and implementing electricity markets and regulatory frameworks in the UK and overseas. The quality of their work and originality of thought is creating significant growth. They need further high calibre staff who:
• Have very strong intellect, with a quality degree (1st class honours, possibly 2.1 plus ideally relevant post graduate qualifications) from a leading university in a highly numerate discipline (OR, Management Science, Industrial Mathematics or similar);
• Knowledge of packages used for mathematical programming and statistical applications, advanced spreadsheet and VB skills;
• Enjoy solving problems;
• Have an ability to present arguments and thoughts clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally;
In addition the following would be advantageous:
• Experience of mathematical modelling, ideally gained within the electricity or gas sectors, using linear programming and/or simulation techniques;
• Knowledge of the working and operation of the electricity/gas market in one EU country; knowledge or experience of others a major advantage;
• Knowledge/experience of quantitative analysis of risk/valuation, possibly gained in a middle office environment;
• Commodity price modelling experience.
They have openings at Analyst, Senior Consultant and Managing Consultant level. Prior experience of the energy sector would be required for more senior positions.
They offer attractive salary of £40,000 - £80,000+ and bonus packages, together with relocation and provide a challenging and highly varied workload, within the overall framework of a collegiate working culture.
